Job Description:

A Sr. Construction Manager is responsible for all technical aspects of telecommunications equipment deployment and ASP management at assigned job venues. This includes ensuring site appropriateness, recommending suppliers, identifying and validating scope items with RF and suppliers, managing equipment and material distribution, site access, planning and scheduling installation and construction, setting project schedules, forecasting, sequencing work, monitoring progress, revising schedules, acting as the Ericsson representative for venue review/approval, customer visits, inspections, safety issues, conducting audits, ensuring completion in accordance with standards, evaluating punch list items, managing budget, coordinating with Customer Project Managers, and delegating administrative tasks to support organizations. The IBCM partners with the Senior Construction Manager on complex jobs/sites and the Remote Construction Manager.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform feasibility walks at venues alongside the data collection SP.
    • Establish a POC with the venue for access and scheduling.
    • Determine potential scheduling conflicts ahead of time.
    • Verify cable routing, GPS placement, DOT placement, ingress/egress to headend using iBwave software.
    • Identify potential roadblocks during construction and develop mitigation plans.
  • Analyze/develop the SOW, BOM, and work with RF design, planning and managing execution, and recommending revisions as needed.
  • Utilize deployment knowledge and expertise to:
    • Evaluate the job/venue for appropriateness.
    • Resolve access issues prior to construction start.
    • Evaluate the scope of the job/venue, decide on the methodology, materials, and equipment necessary, prepare reports and communications.
    • Report material deficiencies and create plans for resolution.
    • Develop/manage plan of record, coordinate crew and material delivery schedule.
    • Review and monitor job status, adjust schedules, and budget as needed.
    • Attend market meetings.
    • Interface with the Customer and other personnel regarding project status, delays, and execution of work; address supplier quality concerns, negotiate issues.
    • Oversee and review construction at the venue against scope documents, ensure construction is performed safely and correctly.
    • Perform formal EHS safety audits in accordance with standards.
    • Review site feasibility with regards to site design, apply changes required to perform the scope safely.
    • Continuously assess safety and best practices; stand down crew based on regulations and non-compliance.
    • Determine whether construction is properly completed, direct the Remote Construction Manager, validate completion of additional work.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to ASPs, RCMs, and others.
  • Partner with the Remote Construction Manager and/or Senior Construction Manager; prepare reports on production and quality of builds; give presentations on status and issues.
  • Drive issues with Service Providers and/or suppliers.
  • Provide performance-related feedback for ASPs and other personnel for yearly evaluations.
  • Work closely with RF design teams to understand project requirements and provide insights during the RF design phase. Assist in identifying optimal locations for small cells and other RF components, emphasizing Ericsson DOT system requirements.
  • Perform additional tasks and assist the Senior Construction Manager as needed.


Tools & Resources:

  • Strong knowledge of:
    • iBwave software
    • Anritsu experience
    • ODTR fiber testing experience
    • Microsoft Office suite of programs
    • Databases (such as Site Tracker)
    • Ericsson local data management tools
    • Close-out Package Checklist
    • Ericsson and industry best practices/standards
    • EHS standards, and relevant regulatory issues


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of related work/industry experience.
  • Degree preferred.
  • Basic technology or related trade course work completion, specifically MCA Small Cell RAN systems (DOT, PDAS, ODAS).
  • Experience with providing design solutions and working with RF to optimize the solution.
  • Ability to determine site feasibility and site design consulting as needed.
  • Direct knowledge of working in both large and small venues.
  • Experience in managing and directing general contractors, construction scope estimation, etc. (In-building, Backhaul, Maintenance Work).
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce Ericsson and customer construction and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting practices and techniques.
  • Understanding of site acquisition, zoning, permitting, landlord negotiations, leasing laws, jurisdictional requirements, and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to interface with customers, property owners, and other internal and external ancillary personnel as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of contracts (leasing, vendor facing, customer facing) and budgets.
  • Understanding of EHS statutory requirements impacting Ericsson in the local market.
  • Completion of approved OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 30-hour course for telecommunications industry.
  • Field experience in managing general contractors, construction scope estimation, etc.
  • Previous experience working on Ericsson equipment portfolio is a plus.
